George Gershwin (September 26, 1898 – July 11, 1937) was an American composer and pianist. Gershwin's compositions spanned both popular and classical genres, and his most popular melodies are widely known. Among his best known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue (1924) and An American in Paris (1928), as well as the opera Porgy and Bess (1935). Gershwin studied piano under Charles Hambitzer and composition with Rubin Goldmark and Henry Cowell.

An American in Paris is a jazz-influenced orchestral piece by American composer George Gershwin written in 1928. Gershwin composed An American in Paris on commission from conductor Walter Damrosch. He scored the piece for the standard instruments of the symphony orchestra plus celesta, saxophones, and automobile horns

George Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris, Piano Concerto in F - The Greatest Classica. Happily, I thought the kinetic performance of "An American in Paris" was great, and also was won over by a fine Concerto in F. Technical quality is good, with variable bitrates averaging 227-238 kbps.

George Gershwin, born in 1898, was one of America’s greatest composers. He published his first song when he was eighteen years old. During the next twenty years until his death in 1937 he wrote more than five hundred more songs. He also wrote an opera as well as music for piano and orchestra. Many of George Gershwin’s songs were first written for musical plays performed in theatres in New York City. These comedies, mixed with plenty of songs, were a popular form of entertainment in the 1920s and 1930s. Another well – known Gershwin song is An American in Paris. It also became an immediate success. Critics were once again divided over the music. Some called it happy and full of life, to others it was silly and long-winded. Still it remains one of his most popular works. George Gershwin died in 1937; just days after doctors learned he had brain cancer. He was only thirty-nine years old.

By George Gershwin, arr. Jerry Brubaker. Concert Band Conductor Score & Parts. The honking of auto horns conjures up a vision of Parisian drivers careening and lurching around the streets of this fabulous city. We're off on a madcap whirl from the genius of George Gershwin. Album · 1958 · 17 Songs. In many ways Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin were very similar: both were great showmen, at ease with different kinds of music, and both were superb performers. On this essential recording, Bernstein the pianist gives a winningly loose-limbed performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and conducts a near-ideal An American in Paris. Bernstein’s own Symphonic Dances from West Side Story sizzle, and his searing film score about life on the New Jersey docks, On the Waterfront, just oozes atmosphere and angst. By George Gershwin - Leonard Bernstein & New York Philharmonic. Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
