This album has been popular ever since it was released, back in 1994. I bought my copy when I was still a school kid. I remember playing the tape (recorded from my CD) in class. It was great in art class, drawing while listening to QFX. The music had a definite influence, which was cool! The best thing about Freedom (The Album) is that every track is fantastic. No fillers! Okay, well I will admit that tracks 19 & 20 are alternate versions, but see them more as bonus tracks. Freedom (The Album) is 100% Perfekt. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

Just listening back to this after many years... Top tracks RUINED either by the distorted kick-drum they slapped on most of them, or the terrible 'bricked' mastering job. Seriously the original vinyl EP versions sound a million times better, clearer, and not brick-walled like on this CD. I'm not slating the album, I loved it when I was younger, but the quality/mastering is horrendous when you compare them to the 12'' versions. As an example, listen to the original 'Virtual Reality' on Shoop! and then compare to the CD, it's night and day! I could go on... Energy / Kick Some Bass / Feel So Good etc... if it's not the terrible mastering, then it's the distorted kick-drum they've put over the tracks JUST for this album, maybe to appeal more to the Scottish Hardcore scene that was huge at the time, for me, most of these are oldskool Techno tracks, that's where they fit in best. Still, song-wise, a great album (I've not heard the vinyl version of this album to compare).

Yeah it's clear they slapped a hard kick onto the tracks to appeal to the Hardcore scene (plus I think the BPM was upped +8).The mastering is slapdash to say the least. Dynamics crushed, just a wall of noise. But the album is still in my playlist, I still love it. As you say, it's great. Full of great tunes. I'm pretty sure the vinyl is identical to be honest! As my review said below, it's something I remember with great happiness from my teenage years. Sure, it always sounded harsh, but the melodies shone through. The original Shoop 12's sound much better of course, but the primal amateur simple "thud" of the kick is missing.A case of "it's wrong, but I kinda like it".QFX, the Garage Rock of Bouncy Techno (at least until Every Time You Touch Me, where they became much more professional).

I am always reluctant regarding cd's with over 13 tracks because of the obvious reason of the so called cd fillers. This one proved to be the exception in this rule. Counting 20 tracks, (ok the 19th and the 20th are alternate versions), i was expecting something mediocre. How wrong. I'm not familiar with the Scottish rave scene of the 90's, although i love Ultra-Sonic and Qfx made me quite curious. Arpeggiated melodies, piano riffs, distorted drums and vocals sometimes real, sometimes through vocoder, built the scenery for a true happy hardcore album. Notice that the duration of the songs do not exceed the 4 minutes, which means that you can't get bored from them. Besides, happy hardcore songs never meaned to be long and boring, rather energetic, happy and melodic making you bouncing up and down. If you are familiar with compilations like Happy Rave you will understand. The rhythm of all the songs is almost identical approximately in 140-150 bpm's. If i am to choose the highlight tracks these would be the first 7, Space Tripper and Kick some bass, not that the other tracks luck anything. I will give this album a perfect 5 stars and a big shout to the producers because they really made a gem album. Recommended by all means to every oldschool raver.
