I was walking, thinking if I had a girl I could wear some dark sunglasses to sheild me from the modern world So I caught another foreign movie, filmed in my hometown Drank a lot of coffee and smoked a couple cigarettes and hopped on the inbound. She works downtown (You wanna go) My knees won't leave the ground (You wanna go) But I dig her style Only had to dial 617-SMILE For a wild life.

Papas Fritas' self-titled debut album is a bracing set of indie power pop with an astonishing sense of both playfulness and studio mastery. In spots, Tony Goddess' vocals are as rugged as on an old Replacements record, while the light-touch ballad "Passion Play" is a charming piece of chamber pop worthy of the Left Banke. While the lyrics are a bit lightweight in places, the group's cunning pop sense and the bright harmony vocals of drummer Shivika Asthana produce a stunning pop album.

Papas Fritas (typically stylized as pApAs fritAs) is an American indie-rock band that formed in 1992 and released three studio albums before breaking up in 2000. The band's name is Spanish for "French fries" but is also a pun on the phrase "Pop has freed us," which they used as both the name of their music publishing company and their 2003 career retrospective. They released their second album, Helioself, in April 1997, kicking off another tour of home and abroad with the Cardigans once again, as well as Blur and Eels. Careers for Culture Lovers" (1993) includes "Wild Life," rerecorded in 1995 for Papas Fritas; "Howl" and "Radio Days," officially released in 1995 on the Passion Play EP; "Mind Games"; "1989"; "Solid Gold"; and "I Hate My Friends.
