About Eri Yamamoto Trio. Born in Osaka, Japan, Eri Yamamoto began playing classical piano at age three, and within five years was composing her own pieces. Throughout her education she continued to study piano, as well as viola, voice, and composition, but when she came to the . for the first time in 1995 and by chance saw jazz pianist Tommy Flanagan play, she knew she had found the kind of music she truly wanted to pursue. Later that year she enrolled in the New School's Jazz and Contemporary Music program, although she had never studied anything but classical music before
Now playing: Portugal. The Man Feel It Still.
I like this trio, led by the lyrical pianist Eri Yamamoto. Here, she produces ten engaging melodies for improvising-often wheels that spin around in your head, hooking you. This is modern jazz playing of high quality-with improvising that tells stories, probing the harmonies and moving like a rush of momentum at the right moments. Bassist David Ambrosio is soulful on every tune, and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi keeps time while still being playful about it. They are not an overwhelming unit like Keith Jarrett’s Standards Trio, not a fleet-footed outfit like Brad Mehldau’s trio, nor a band that is playing with modern pop forms like the trios of Vijay Iyer or Jason Moran. Rather, you can picture them on their home turf, keeping matters intimate but engaging.
Get the Tempo of the songs by Eri Yamamoto Trio, including A Little Escape(112BPM), Sheep Song(119BPM), This Is an Apple(123BPM), Wonderland, Bumpy Trail(96BPM), Redwoods(78BPM), Bottled Water Princess(133BPM). Since moving to the United States in 1995, Eri Yamamoto has established herself as one of jazz's most original and compelling pianists and composers. Jazz legend Herbie Hancock has said, My hat’s off to he. lready she’s found her own voice. The Eri Yamamoto Trio, featuring bassist Dave Ambrosio and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi, has developed a unique sound and repertoire, and has built a strong following in New York and abroad. Recent tours include performances in the U. Popular Songs.
