Metalcore band Woe, Is Me find their footing again on Genesi, their first album after a shakeup saw them bring four new members on board. For the most part, the band plays things close to the vest, focusing on tight playing and solid songwriting over more adventurous guitar heroics. While the album doesn't show a whole lot in the way of growth, it does represent a rebirth of a sort for the band, and while the album doesn't find them expanding their sound significantly, it does feel more like a steadying of the ship than damage control

Secondly, the whole formula of this album is sadly bland for the most part. It mostly just consists of the guitar chugs and dull drums that grow lazy as you are running through the album, with the symphonic and electronic sound effects feeling crammed in there. It’s not flat-out abysmal, and it is rather catchy during the first spin.

Number is the debut album by American metalcore band, Woe, Is Me, released on August 30, 2010 through Rise Records and its imprint division, Velocity. A re-release of the record was released on July 16, 2012 with Andrew Paiano and Hance Alligood due to the departure of Tim Sherrill and Tyler Carter. It was the only album to feature the original line-up after conflicts within the band. Number was produced by Cameron Mizell in his Orlando, Florida hometown.

It is the first album to feature Doriano Magliano, Hance Alligood, Brian Medley, and Andrew Paiano (formerly of Abandon All Ships), and the last album featuring Austin Thornton on drums. The album kicks off energetically with a 30 second intro entitled "D Day" which consists of random mechanical sounds and voices (I guess it's not too uncommon of bands these days) and the fierce "FYI", showing they're out to prove they still have what it takes. New screamer Doriano Magliano may not have the most active range but he makes up for it with raw passion and emotion, leading the band with lyrics "With the devil on my back and God in my heart, I used the hands that built you up to ing rip you apart".
