About Magnified album. Album Magnified (1994). Greg Edwards, Ken Andrews. Lyrics By.

Magnified is the second album by the American alternative rock band Failure. Magnified differs greatly from Failure's debut album Comfort by using a great deal of bass guitar distortion. Their use of a bassline as the main structure to the song as well as distortion can be heard best on "Frogs" and "Wonderful Life". Harmonics are also used extensively and can be heard quite prominently on the songs "Moth", "Wonderful Life" and "Empty Friend".

Magnified is the second studio album by the American rock band Failure. In fact this is their only album, and one of only few rock albums in general, where most songs are defined by the bassline instead of the guitar work making it rather unique.

Magnified " has a varied enough sound to keep it interesting and with great songwriting to produce a really satisfying listen. Failure " also have a sort of interesting history. This was their second album and the first to have a video made for it - " Undone ". The band were actually well received and praised by both critics and other bands alike (especially this album for its "sonic and musical advances").

the sophomore album from the Greg Edwards/Ken Andrews vehicle known as Failure. I was actually introduced to this band from a magazine article, in which Maynard Keenan (Tool) tells of a discussion he had with Ken Andrews way back in 1994, involving dark tonal styles in music. thus beginning my love affair with the "word-of-mouth" band, a band whose popularity actually increased following its breakup.

Re: The average sale price on Discogs - Wow, I passed on this in the dollar bin at Underground Sounds in NOLA right after seeing Failure live in '94 opening for Tool, even though I was blown away by them. Dumb move. Luckily I've bought two other pressings of this CD since then. Despite some filler, this is a phenomenal album, unfairly eclipsed by another band with a single titled "Undone" this same spring.

Statement concerning this release from the Failure Facebook page:If you want to own a copy of our Magnified album on Vinyl, then you'll have to wait until someone actually releases it. The recent release by ORG music, claiming to be our album Magnified, is not. The people over at ORG Music, or perhaps the people at Rhino, (the catalog arm of Warner Bros) decided that they didn't need to check with the band before pressing, and actually left off a very important piece of the album. There is a Segue that comes right after the title track, that was left off. We are not talking about a disagreement in the quality of the mastering, or the type of Vinyl used. They actually left off content. Granted it was a Segue of roughly a minute and half in length, but to us, it is a very critical piece that is important to the flow of the album. Anyone who really knows the band's material, would know that Segues are one of our hallmarks. The one they left off is a particularly significant one that is a clear precursor to what we ultimately did with Segues on Fantastic Planet. How this happened is anybody's guess, as the people we have spoken with so far are already pointing fingers at each other with no one willing to accept responsibility. It has nothing to do with the time restrictions of Vinyl, as there is clearly plenty of room at the end of Side A for the 1:40 Segue. This appears to be a simple case of negligence. It is very easy for a label to get in touch with us, but even if one can't be bothered to spend the time and effort to contact the creators, and have them approve a new master before release, how hard is it to actually check the Vinyl Master against the CD or Digital version of the album, which are readily available, and as we intended, before you press up and release a 12"? So, for the people who already bought this impostor, we're sorry you were duped. If your a collector type, maybe you'll be into this sort of thing. And for people who are thinking about buying it, we recommend that you not. At least not until they decide to put out the actual album we made. -Ken Andrews

Anyone listened to this and thought it had clipping or seemed extra distorted?

I noticed the distortion right away as soon as I played my copy. I don't have the most expensive set-up but "Small Crimes" sounds horrendous in a way that's inexcusable. Thought it was just my copy but I'll be patiently waiting for the band to release the "real" version of Magnified.

Haven't opened my copy yet, but I heard it's missing the acoustic "segue" in between "magnified" and "wonderful life".

I thought my copy sounded fine, and I know I don't have the most audiophile setup.
