Bluenote Café includes recordings from 11 different shows from November ‘87 through August ‘88. This Note's for You is the 16th studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, released on April 11, 1988 on Reprise. Part of the album's concept centered on the commercialism of rock and roll, and tours in particular. The music is marked by the use of a horn section. It also marked Young's return to the recently re-activated Reprise Records after a rocky tenure with Geffen Records.

One of the thrusts of the program is the use of advanced augmentative and alternative communication and assistive technology. Crime in the City (Sixty to Zero Part I). "Crime in the City (Sixty to Zero Part I)" is a song written by Neil Young that was first released on his 1989 album Freedom, although Young had performed longer versions in concert earlier. It was not released as a single but reached number 34 on the Billboard Magazine Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

After a string of tepid themed albums for Geffen Records (Trans, Everybody’s Rockin’, Old Ways), Neil Young returned in 1988 to Reprise with This Note’s for You, an homage to the blues. The tour for that album resulted in Bluenote Café, a 23-track album packed with previously unreleased horn-heavy tracks inspired more by Electric Flag than Albert King. It opens with the swagger of Welcome to the Big Room, a thinly veiled criticism of his old label.
