Two Door Cinema Club are an Irish indie rock band from Bangor and Donaghadee, County Down. The band formed in 2007 and is composed of three members: Alex Trimble (vocals, rhythm guitar, beats, synths), Sam Halliday (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Kevin Baird (bass, synths, backing vocals). The band's debut album, Tourist History, was released on 1 March 2010 by French independent record label Kitsuné Music.
Gameshow finds Two Door Cinema Club embracing sounds and textures of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s with striking results. After a self-imposed break, the Northern Irish indie trio reinvent. Gameshow finds Two Door Cinema Club embracing sounds and textures of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s with striking results.
Gameshow is Two Door Cinema Club’s difficult third album, the kind of left turn a band must take because they just can’t afford to stagnate after releasing two good but largely similar records. The success of Beacon in 2012 left longtime friends and bandmates Alex Trimble, Sam Halliday, and Kevin Baird at a personal and creative crossroads, and when they reconvened in 2015 to create Gameshow, they set off on a decidedly different track: ’80s nostalgia. Contemporary listeners are no strangers to the retro revival of neo-soul, disco, and funk, a movement Daft Punk pulled off perfectly on Random.
More Two Door Cinema Club.
With Gameshow, Two Door Cinema Club ultimately balance a growing pop maturity with a stylish strut worthy of Saturday Night Fever's Tony Manero. New Musical Express (NME). 80. By overtly embracing radio pop, Gameshow adds further froth to the wave of popified guitar music that TDCC triggered by giving rise to Bastille and The 1975.
