The Correct Use of Soap is the third studio album by British post-punk band Magazine, released by Virgin Records in 1980. It contains some of Magazine's best-known and most popular songs, including the singles "A Song from Under the Floorboards" and "Sweetheart Contract" and their cover of Sly and the Family Stone's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)". A different version of this album was released in Canada in 1980, by then distributor Polygram Records.

Parts of the front and back cover are embossed.

Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" b/w "The Book" Released: March 1980. On 1 September 2009, Magazine performed the original album in its entirety during the first half of their show at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The Correct Use of Soap. All songs by Barry Adamson, Howard Devoto, John Doyle, Dave Formula and John McGeoch, except where noted.

The opening track of The Correct Use of Soap, is even called Because You’re Frightened, but it quickly becomes evident that this is personal, not political – its chorus of look what fears done to my body, accompanies verses which imply settling with somebody sexually for the sake of it. The politics of fear have met the politics of sexuality, dealt with throughout in refreshingly physical terms  . Magazines talent as musicians as a whole is undeniable, but there is a sense that The Correct Use of Soap, is its producer Martin Hannett’s album as much as anybody actually within the bands. The albums title also implies maintaining the cleanliness of the body.

Released in 1980, and roughly 4 years after Magazine's ef Howard Devoto left the seminal UK punk band Buzzcocks, 'The Correct Use Of Soap' marks a definite return to the lively Post-Punk first seen on their classic debut, 'Real Life', and then summarily done away with on the followup, 'Secondhand Daylight'. This album is my 4th favourite album of Magazine. I like their first two more and also No Thyself, because The Correct Use Of Soap is too light for me sometimes, but the lyrics are great as always, like in "Model Worker" for example. Still one of my top 10 post-punk bands. Digging: Stendeck - Sonnambula.
