Grace Beverly Jones OJ (born 19 May 1948) is a Jamaican-American supermodel, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Born in Jamaica, she moved when she was 13, along with her siblings, to live with her parents in Syracuse, New York. Jones began her modelling career in New York state, then in Paris, working for fashion houses such as Yves St. Laurent and Kenzo, and appearing on the covers of Elle and Vogue.
Hurricane is the tenth studio album by singer Grace Jones, released in 2008, and her first album of new material in nineteen years. Grace Jones' previous album, Bulletproof Heart, was released in 1989, and despite several comeback attempts throughout the 1990s, her next full-length record would be released almost two decades later. The singer had decided "never to do an album again", changing her mind only after meeting the music producer Ivor Guest via mutual friend Philip Treacy.
The Grace Jones track has vocals by Tricky, it was already released in 1998 on a white label (see above) as The Hurricane Mix just the ending is a bit different. It was then later released on Grace Jones' solo album "Hurricane" in 2008 (see below) in a totally different mix. Sunshine: Moonshower And Razorblades. CD, Custard Records, 2005 (left). CD Japan, Fabulous FABC-012, 8. August 2005 (right). 01. What You've Got. 3:54.
Disco is a boxed set of three Grace Jones's albums released in 2015. The set contains Portfolio (1977), Fame (1978), and Muse (1979), all of which were recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound with disco pioneer Tom Moulton as producer, in their entirety. The albums were remastered and each of the three CDs included seven bonus tracks while the vinyl box maintains the original track listings and offers a fourth record, that collects mainly long versions of the 45s from this era.
Her collaborators (including Brian Eno, Tricky, Wendy & Lisa, Sly & Robbie, Tony Allen, and others) set up instrumental backdrops that explicitly recall not only her own early-'80s albums, but also those albums' influence on the later work of Massive Attack, Tricky, et al. At the same time, Jones' old lyrical persona - the androgynous cyber-demon who uses scorn as an erotic weapon - has been largely abandoned; only on "Corporate Cannibal" does that version of her reappear, atop a track that sounds inspired by Massive Attack's "Inertia Creeps.
