Why?" is a single by British synth-pop trio Bronski Beat and appeared on their 1984 album The Age of Consent. The song, recorded at RPM Studios, NYC and mixed at Townhouse Studio, London, pursued an energetic musical formula, while the lyrics focused more centrally on anti-gay prejudice. The song opens with a questioning vocal by frontman and vocalist Jimmy Somerville and the shattering of breaking glass

Produced by Mike Thorne. Album The Age Of Consent. Tell me why Tell me why. Contempt in your eyes when I turn to kiss his lips Broken I lie, all my feelings denied, blood on your fist. Can you tell me why? Can you tell me why? Can you tell me why? Can you tell me why? Ooh! You in your false securities tear up my life, condemning me Name me an illness, call me a sin, never feel guilty, never give in.

Bronski Beat were a popular British synthpop trio who achieved success in the mid-1980s, particularly with the 1984 chart hit "Smalltown Boy". The initial line-up, which recorded the majority of the band's hits, consisted of Jimmy Somerville (vocals), Steve Bronski (keyboards, percussion) and Larry Steinbachek (keyboards, percussion)  . Foster left Bronski Beat after their second album, and the band used a series of vocalists before dissolving in 1996. Steve Bronski, the only original member, now leads a revived touring version of the band, and is recording new material for release in 2017 alongside 90s member Ian Donaldson.

New Official Bronski Beat Page to celebrate 35 years of the band forming. Jimmy has undoubtedly made such a positive influence on so many lives that he’ll never know. Perhaps it’s why he’s still blessed to be around and still perform and still continue to be such a great influence and inspiration. There is such a thing as karma. Love you Jimmy Somerville.
